Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2025
1. Overview
WordCount ("we," "our," or "the tool") is a free, client-side text analysis tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Short version: We don't collect, store, or transmit your text. Ever.
2. Your Text Data
All text you type or paste into WordCount is processed entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. No text is ever sent to our servers (we don't have application servers), stored in a database, logged, or shared with any third party. When you close or navigate away from the page, the text is gone.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We use localStorage solely to save your dark/light mode preference. This data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.
4. Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (e.g., page view counts) to understand how many visitors use the tool. If enabled, these analytics do not track individual users, do not use cookies, and do not collect personally identifiable information.
5. Third-Party Services
WordCount does not embed third-party advertising, social media pixels, or tracking scripts. We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties because we do not collect any.
6. Children's Privacy
WordCount is a general-purpose utility suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
8. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy, please reach out via the GitHub repository or the contact information on our site.
